What is Pestivirus?

Pestivirus, otherwise known as Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV), is an insidious disease affecting cattle that can reduce herd reproductive rates through infertility or abortion, poor condition in young animals, as well as reducing herd immunity to a range of other diseases like Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD).

Vaccination is the most common preventative for Pestivirus.

The test for Pestivirus may identify animals that are persistently infected (PI) with Pestivirus. These animals pose a serious risk to unvaccinated herds.
